Short Film: Bomb

Posted by BenSpark on April 30, 2007

Have you heard about On The Lot? On The Lot is a new reality show that is coming to Fox. And Fox and I are in a fight over the cancellation of Drive. Not at all happy about that. Anyway On The Lot is the search for th next big filmmaker and I want you to take a look at Bomb by Paul Schuyler. The video was okay. We weren’t overly thrilled, but some of the scenes were interesting.I liked the one where the main guy opens his eye and you see the pupil dilate. It was pretty cool.

I know about this show and this video in particular because of my Uncle Murph. He is on the fire department on the cape and part of the short film was done with the Chatham Fire and Police Department and part was filmed at the Chatham Elementary School. So please take a look at the short film, I think he has some potential if given time to hone his craft. Watch: Bomb

Some more about On The Lot. I do not generally like reality shows, however I was a fan of Last Comic Standing because I really enjoy comedy. Well I really enjoy movies and this is being produced by Steven Spielberg. So I may look into this show.

From Mark Burnett, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television, ON THE LOT affords aspiring filmmakers the opportunity of a lifetime: a $1-million DreamWorks development deal. And, 12,000 people submitted their films for consideration. ON THE LOT will feature filmmakers who will produce short films in every genre every week and the viewers will vote on who gets eliminated. The show will premiere with a one-hour auditions episode on Tuesday, May 22.

They have also announced the judges for the audition shows.

Actress, author and screenwriter Carrie Fisher (“Star Wars,” “Postcards From The Edge”), as well as directors/producers Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour 3,” “X-Men 3: The Last Stand”), Garry Marshall (“Georgia Rule,” “Princess Diaries,” “Pretty Woman”) and Job Avnet (“The Starter Wife,” “Fried Green Tomatoes,” “Risky Business”), will serve as judges for the series’ two “audition” episodes airing Tuesday, May 22 9/8c and Thursday, May 24 9/8c on FOX. Judges for additional rounds will be announced at a later date.

So the lineup looks to be interesting. If I can get over Fox screwing over the shows I like then maybe I might watch this show when it comes out.

Movie: Transformers – Media Blitz

Posted by BenSpark on April 27, 2007

If you have been reading my blogs then you know that I am a huge Transformer’s fan. I have had a countdown on my blog The BenSpark since I heard about the movie being created back about 2 years ago. The release date is fast approaching and today the Internet was abuzz with all sorts of Transformers related news. Here are some links to the best stories I read today.

AICN – Review of Test Screening – If you want cursing and possible spoilers read this. I for one do not but I offer it up anyway. I read a bit but gave up because the reviewer was pretty crass to me. This information was courtesy of Seibertron.com

Hasbro’s Press Release regarding new Transformers.com website and upcoming products – Basically a press release of the website overhaul and teaser that more stuff is coming. – Courtesy of Seibertron.com

Press release: Battle for The AllSpark ignites online with launch of Transformers: The Game website – This is for an online game that will be pretty sweet however there is already a great online game at Seibertron.com. But also on this site I was able to pre-order the Transformers game for the Nintendo Wii. That is supposed to come out June 26th. So I can play it two days before I see the movie on June 28th at BotCon 2007 – Courtesy of Seibertron.com

Transformers.com at Hasbro gets Facelift – The official Transformers Website at Transformers.com has been redesigned to coincide with the movie and the new line of toys. – Courtesy of TFormers.com

Wizards of the West Coast have created a 3D Card Transformers game. Very similar to the Pirates game. – Courtesy of Transformers.com

The Transformers Movie Toys are coming out June 2nd. There will be a huge release and Transformer.com has a preview of the new toys. – Courtesy of Transformers.com

David Willis, a web comic artist and huge Transformers Fan has had a storyline based on the toys being released on June 2nd in his web comic Shortpacked.

MyBlogLogWagon
I got tagged by The wired Kayaker (yeah my own blog) but hey I am spreading this around a bit and I am giving my readers a chance to be the next people who are tagged. Partly because I am not sure who has already gotten tagged and partly because I don’t want to annoy anyone out there. I have already asked my friend Christine to do two memes today. After today I’ll only be doing one of these a week. I swear.

If you are interested in participating in this meme then leave me a comment and I will take the first 3 people who respond. If this one fills up to quickly then check out The BenSpark or The Wired Kayaker to get your chance to be tagged.

He Said: Lost 04/25/07

Posted by BenSpark on April 26, 2007

Last night’s episode of Lost was very good. I liked the whole backstory about Sun and Jin. It made me understand how Jin could become the man he was before the crash. I also liked Jin giving a roundhouse to Mr. One Eye.

And what is with One Eyed Willy still being alive. Did he ever actually die or did he take some sort of mixture in his mouth to make it look like he was killed? I wonder. Or did the island raise him up. I am thinking that the nanobots have something to do with this.

The interaction between Juliette and Sun was also good and the final moments I really thought that Sun would be standing there behind Juliette and to give her a roundhouse. That would have been better. But we are still left wondering whose side is Juliette on.

Allison sent me this link to Apropos of Something. There is a weekly Lost-vivor segment and it is a good read each week. Anyway some backstory on why this is funny to me. during last week’s episode when Desmond removes the helmet from Nadia (Portuguese pilot) I took one look at her and said, “Sanjaya?”. Anyway get a load of the picture that is used for Nadia on Lost-vivor. I am not the only one who thinks that.

TV Show: Drive: Impounded

Posted by BenSpark on April 26, 2007

I just read that Drive has been canceled. Well that is just Prime! I was very excited about this show and enjoyed the four episodes that were on TV, however the show didn’t do so well in the ratings so it was canceled.

Is this Tim Minear’s curse. Will a show driven by Tim ever keep from being canceled? And why does Tim continue to shop shows to Fox. They have screwed him every time. I just don’t get it.

Anyway there were 6 shows completed and now the question remains, will the last remaining shows be streamed online? I certainly hope so. I doubt there is enough fan support to stream it often enough to the save the show. I hate not knowing the resolution to a show like Drive.

Here is the Article from Variety thanks to Pop Candy for the tip off. Now where are we going to get out Nathan Fillion Fix?

TV Show: Robot Chicken – Star Wars Spoof

Posted by BenSpark on April 25, 2007

I am a fan of Robot chicken. My wife considers each 15 minute show a waste of 15 minutes that she will never get back. But I am a guy and love the toys and the spoofs that are being created.

Apparently George Lucas and Mark Hamill are fans of the show as well. Robot Chicken was created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. They take old toys and dolls and clay and make stop motion skits. Usually they involve some of our well known and best loved icons form the 70s and 80s.

There was a great skit about Darth Vader calling Emperor Palpatine about the destruction of the Death Star. This skit caught George Lucas’ eye and he is going to work with the guys for a 30 minute Star Wars spoof episode. Mark Hamill will be voicing Luke Skywalker.

The show will air at 10:00pm on June 17th on Cartoon Network. You can reaed more about the show and Lucas’ involvement on Yahoo News.

Drive 4/23 and Heroes 4/23 – He Said

Posted by BenSpark on April 24, 2007

Drive – Last night we experienced another fast paced episode of Drive. This show is a an interesting mix of Survivor, The Amazing Race, Lost and the Cannonball run all rolled into one slick package.

Last week we saw our hero Alex Tully get a new car, his old car actually a 1972 Dodge Challenger. We also found out that Alex used to be part of a bank robbery gang. He agave all that up and tried to put his past behind him. Well, I think we know why Alex was pulled into the Race. This week Alex was the most improved driver so he gets to take a detour to pull ahead of all other drivers by 750 miles, after he completes a certain task. Tully says go for it Corinna says no. They go for it.

Winston and Sean Salazar follow Alex and Corinna. And it is a good thing because the task that Alex must perform is to rob a bank to get a specific safety deposit box. They pull this off but not without casualties. Sean kills a security guard and Sean also happens to get shot by the security guard’s gun. This happened while alex was struggling with the guard.

Rob finds out that Ellie trashed all his mail from the army and has been deleting his messages. Rob also finds that he is AWOL and can be found a deserter and executed for deserting during wartime. Things are not going well in that car.

John and Violet Trimble were in the show for mere moments. John’s illness is catching up with him and he is still hiding it from his daughter.

Ivy and Wendy are at odds because Wendy must return to protect her son and Ivy pulls a gun on Wendy demanding that she keep driving. Wendy refuses and we learn that Ivy cannot drive.

Susan and Leigh show up to the drive in and they are out of the race. Mr. Bright confiscates the cell phone. Undeterred Susan and Leigh continue on and try to get back into the race. They see Rob and Ellie’s car as Rob tosses out the cell phone. Susan and Leigh stop and pick up the discarded cell phone. They are back in the race. This doesn’t last long as a giant truck rams them off the road. Susan and Leigh spin in the tiny car over and over but are slightly hurt. The truck then smashes them again.

Susan dies and Leigh is determined more than ever to get back into the race and win. She hitches a ride and heads to the Appomattox Court House in Virginia.

We end on Alex dropping Winston and Corinna at a motel while he goes to find help for the dying Sean Salazar.

Heroes: %0.07

We see Linderman make an offer to Nathan and we see a revelation of Nathan’s future. This comes in the form of a painting that was done by Issac. We also learn that Linderman has the power to heal things. Interesting that the character who is designated as the big bad has the ability to heal. Very interesting.

Peter and Sylar face off, Sylar kills Peter with shards of glass but Mohinder knocks Sylar out and escapes with Peter’s body. Mohinder brings Peter to the Petrelli House and he is greeted by Nathan and Peter’s mother. We also have Claire in the house and we learn that Grandma Petrelli may have powers, but we do not learn what they are.

Claire finally meets her father, Nathan Petrelli, and she removes the glass from Peter’s head and Peter comes back to life. Claire apparently is being shipped off to France.

Hiro and Ando are 5 years in the future. The final moments of the show were cool where Future Hiro and present Hiro in the future meet. Hiro and Ando go looking for Mr. Issac at his apartment, there we see a timeline, but it is not a line, the information is strung out all over the room. It looked to me like multiple paths for the same reality, or it could be how all the events are intertwined together. By the way, Future Hiro is not happy to see his past self.

Issac is killed by Sylar. He is nailed to the floor by his paintbrushes. Sylar has Issac’s ability at the end of the show and we see Sylar paint the same painting that Nathan Petrelli now has from Linderman. The painting style of Sylar reflects the evil nature of the character.

We also see Matt Parkman escape with H.R.G. and Ted the nuclear guy. H.R.G. is revealed to only be some sort of middle manager and this tickles Parkman to no end. We learn that Ted can not only go radioactive but he can produce an EMP. The scenes between H.R.G. and Matt were some of my favorite ones.

We also see the shape shifter attempt to trick H.R.G. and then succeed in tricking Micah. Linderman no has Micah and Jessica/Nikki are not going to be pleased.

Heroes is back and the story was worth the weight, just disappointed that we only have 4 more episodes till the end of the season.

Till next time This is what He Said.

TV Shows: Drive Revs up, Heroes Returns

Posted by BenSpark on April 23, 2007

Save the cheerleader, been there done that, hows about you save some room on your DVR. The hit show Heroes returns this evening for the final 5 episodes. Where did we leave off. H.R.G. has lost his memory but his wife was helping him, however he was found out by the shape shifting chick. Peter is in a battle with Sylar while Mohinder hangs, literally, in the balance. Claire has caught up with her real parents. Matt seems to be now working with the company that H.R.G. used to work for. D.L., Nikki/Jessica and their whiz kid… I have no clue, they weren’t very interesting to begin with. Hiro has claimed his sword.

The final five episodes hold the keys to the resolution of this year’s story arc. How to stop an exploring man.

On Drive we will see our hero Alex Tully slip behind the driver’s seat of his car, a black, 1972 Challenger. We saw last week that our hero has a past that he has tried to forget but old habits and talents die hard. Alex took to his machine like a duck to water and blazed a trail up to Rome Georgia. So we sit and wait for the movie to begin in tonight’s episode.

Comic Book: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8

Posted by BenSpark on April 22, 2007

I have read both Issue 1 and Issue 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 and I love it. The issues are written by the man himself, Joss Whedon and the artwork is very good. Many of the characters that we know and love are back in this comic. We are just establishing what the world that is now inhabited by thousands of Slayers is all about. We see that the there are separate teams working on training the young slayers.

I know that we have to establish more of the information about what is going on before we can get into learning about the new slayers. I would certainly like to find out more about them and hopefully we will eventually. The dialog in this new comic is dead on perfect for the characters. It is so great to see Xander in a command position. He is my favorite character and I am glad to see him featured more prominently. The cliffhangers between the issues are nice too. It leaves me wanting more issues. I am very excited to finally get a season 8 even if it isn’t on TV.

Look for Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 8 in your local comic book shop. It is a must read for a true Buffy Fan.
