My Wife is now a Blogger

Posted by BenSpark on February 28, 2007

That is correct, Allison has started her own blog. It is called Sparky’s View. And in her own words of description she is going to blog about her new hobby of Knitting, Family and B.E. Makeup, as well as, whatever else comes to mind. Allison is a terrific writer and spend much time behind the scenes cleaning up my atrocious grammar and spelling mistakes that I don’t catch.

Allison also got a sweet camera from yours truly that she will be using to take her own set of pictures to post. While she isn’t committing to a Photo-A-Day she will be posting plenty of pictures as she moves ahead in this new endeavor. So please head over and visit Allison and her new Blog.

You will see some changes around here as I start a site redesign in the near future.

Flute-tastic….

Posted by BenSpark on February 28, 2007

I was going to save this guy for a later video of the week but I would probably forget about it eventually. Anyway there is this guy, Greg Pattillo, who is playing a flute and beat boxing to some of the classic themes of our time, namely the Sesame Street Theme, Super Mario Brothers Theme and Inspector Gadget Theme. Yeah you know that is classic. Check out The Inspector Gadget theme.

I remember watching that show as a kid. Penny was one of those characters that as a kid you get those crushes on. Her and She-Ra the princess of power. But I digress. This video is of the beat box master doing the Mario Brothers Theme.

Oh and what set of classic songs would be complete without the Sesame Street Theme.

This guy is a genius, I subscribed to his YouTube Channel so I could see what else he comes up with.

I stumbled upon this because of Wes Molebash at YHT and the YHT forums.

Help Allison pick a name…

Posted by BenSpark on February 28, 2007

I bet about 5 hearts stopped at reading this post’s title. No, not a baby name, a blog name. Allison is thinking about starting her own blog and we are stumped at a name for it. The blog is going to be about Bare Essentials Makeup, Photos, Family and probably TV shows. I’m thinking that when she sets up the blog We will do a he said, she said thing again and link to each other’s posts. But the name, the name is escaping us right now and she has had some offers but nothing is really jumping out at her. So leave a comment on this post with your suggestion of a blog name for Allison.

When Allison takes up the mantle of her new blog I will be changing the sub title of this blog to reflect that it is now just my blog. Don’t worry I will still keep everyone up to date with what is going on with both myself and Allison. The site just won’t be called The BenSpark Drew and Allison’s Blog. It will be The BenSpark …. (Something other than Drew and Allison’s Blog)

Photo-A-Day #690 02/27/07

Posted by BenSpark on February 28, 2007

Living in New England you see lots of old cemeteries with rock walls around them. I remember when I was a kid in grade school I was an altar boy and I had to do a funeral at this cemetery. I drive by it almost every day for work. I like to take back roads, just like my Christopher Williams shirt says. I really like how the rock walls and these ancient stones look. This gravestone is from 1853 but the woman buried there was born on February 26, 1767, wow that would have been freaky if I took this picture yesterday.

I pass by things every day on my ride to work that I want to get photos of. This morning I was on Route 9 and the wind was kicking up the snow so the island in the middle of a lake to my left looked really awesome, but I was unable to stop in the middle of route 9. I swear sometimes the best vantage points to see things are from the car when you are speeding down the road. Then you get to a scenic overlook and it doesn’t look as good as what you just saw but couldn’t photograph.

I had to get dinner ready tonight so instead of the gym I worked out in the Wii gym. Mostly boxing but I did a pretty decent show of baseball too. I did my Wii age and went from 38 to 49. Tennis gets me every time. I was happy to see that Boxing was incorporated into today’s Wii age test. I kicked butt by knocking 24 bags off the chain in 1 minute. Pretty soon I will have to get this shirt. Body by Wii. It was created by Greg Dean of Real Life Comics. He has some great shirts and one was even worn by Adam on Mythbusters in one episode. I think Greg should send some shirts to Cali Lewis so she can wear them on her geekbrief.tv Podcast.

Create Your Own Comic Strip

Posted by BenSpark on February 27, 2007

Do you think that you are funny? Maybe you want to write a comic strip but you can’t draw well. Or maybe you have something funny to say on your blog and you want to use a comic strip to say it.

If any of those ideas appeal to you then you can check out StripGenerator.com With StripGenerator.com you can pick and choose characters, objects and text boxes to create your own little comic strips and post them as a blog on StripGenerator.com. I created my own which is located at http://benspark.stripgenerator.com/. You can make your own comic strips with the site. It is fun, check it out.

I found this site through Dan at Florida Venture Blog by Dan Rua

This is a fun thing but nothing compared to the great webcomics that are out there doing their thing every day. Like our friend Wes Molebash who is the creator of You’ll Have That. There’s a guy who writes a great web comic strip.

Wes has put out two books, collected editions of his comic series. But they aren’t selling like they should. So now Wes is working at a One shot to be published through Viper Comics to get the word spread about YHT. As you may know Wes came and stayed with us this past summer and did a book signing. We bought a bunch and gave them out to a bunch of people. Those folks liked the books and I know you will like them too so please help Wes out and visit his site and read the comics, and buy one of his books. You will not be disappointed.

Photo-A-Day #682 02/19/07

Posted by BenSpark on February 20, 2007

Bonnie likes her water running.

Allison and I started our day in New Hampshire. We had breakfast and lunch with Marcia and Dan and headed home around 12:30. On the way home we stopped off to hang out with Andy and Rondi and Stephen the Dog. We played a bunch of Wii games together. The first game we played was Monster 4X4 World Circuit. I totally dominated the races, but I think that given more time everyone else would move up and be on par with me in that game. Then Andy and Rondi played Wii Play and then Allison and I played Wii Play. We were going to play another round of that but switched to the Wii Sports and did bowling. Rondi is at the Pro level in that game and Andy hit strike after strike. I did not fare so well in that game.

We ended up staying till dinnertime and decided to go to Acapulco’s to pick up dinner. Andy and I drove out there to get our dinner and Allison and Rondi talked Disney plans because Andy and Rondi are headed to Disney later next month. Our dinner was great and after dinner we played the Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam game for Wii.

Andy and I worked on setting him up with PayPerPost for the Stephen the Dog blog. So once he gets approved then he can start earning money blogging.

It was getting late so we got home and when we got home Dad showed my the place that they would be staying at in Florida for April vacation. Looks like a nice place.

Photo-A-Day #681 02/18/07

Posted by BenSpark on February 19, 2007

Today Allison and I were still up in New Hampshire. We got to sleep a little late and then we played some Nintendo Wii and had breakfast. We are really enjoying playing the Wii. Allison is fiercely competitive and gets mad at me because I pick up on these games very quickly. That is because I spent years in front of my Nintendo playing game after game. Now we can download many of those old games and play them on the Wii’s virtual console. Pretty sweet, except those games are now worth the equivalent of $5.00 and I remember paying $40 or $50 for them back when they came out. And a quick search of eBay tells me that they are now worth practically nothing. But I am saving them for some reason, a reason I do not know. I will probably use them to punish my kids when they complain and want something expensive or something or if they have been naughty.

Me: “Here see how tough Dad had it!”

Son: “But it doesn’t work”

Me: “You have to blow in it first and then jiggle the cartridge around.

Son: “Why are they so boxy”

Me: “Those are pixels son, pixels in my day were much larger.”

Son: “This sucks!”

Me: “Well you are going to have to play this till you can learn not to pull your sister’s hair. And you get another week for saying ‘sucks’.”

So I guess I will hang onto that system for now. And the black and white TV I used to play it on… MWAHHHAHHAHHAHH!

Later on in the day we went over to Kohls to pick up a few things and then we went to Bed Bath and Beyond to pick up some things for the quest bathroom. We are going to go with a beach theme in that room. We got some very nice accent pieces. Then as we were checking out Marcia gave us a 20% off one item coupon for Linen’s and Things. Did you know that Bed Bath and Beyond honors the Linen’s and Things coupons and they even take them when they have expired. Good tip to know. Well as we were heading to the car Marcia wanted to know how much we saved, we told her $7.00 and she was puzzled. Wasn’t it 20% off the whole purchase? No we said it was 20% of one item. Marcia had a 20% off the entire purchase coupon so when we got home I headed back to Bed Bath and Beyond to use the right coupon. I thought it would be a hassle but they were great about it and we saved an additional $26.00 so the ride back was worth it.

We had Alley Cat pizza for dinner and that was a treat. Alley cat makes the biggest slices of pizza ever. I’m always glad when we get pizza from there.

The photo today is of Bonnie. She was sitting in the sink when I went to use the bathroom, I quickly got out and grabbed my camera to capture her resting space.

I played some of the practice games for Nintendo Wii Sports and they were great. I love the boxing ones where you have to knock off the bags then doge the balls and then hit the right mitts. I did pretty well. Allison sent me a story a while back about a guy who does Wii boxing 30 minutes a day and lost 8 pounds. That is pretty cool. I can see how extended play when you are really getting physical with the games can give you a workout. I will have to start the Wii Workout. I need to find more games that use the Wiimotes in a very physical way.
